First pee pee in the toilet

Charlotte did pee pee in the toilet for the first time tonight. She always asks to go on the toilet before bath (copying Lily's pre-bath routine) but there is never anything. But tonight there was a result. I went crazy and called Michael in, then we went crazy together, clapping and saying 'bravo' (a word Charlotte's started using herself). Then she sticks her tongue out and says 'tongue' very pleased with herself.

It's a funny thing seeing your baby do pee pee for the first time in the loo. Genuine excitement and happiness. Certain surrealness (like so much of parenting). Almost a primitive response. Sorta hard to explain. But there it is before you, concrete evidence that 2 years of exclusive nappy wearing is over. It's the beginning of the end of nappies, which are such a symbol of babyhood, complete independence, lack of control over bodily functions. And the beginning of a whole new ballgame.
