Anchovy sandwiches
Lily mentioned the other day that the kids at school don't like her blueberry muffins. She was laughing and might even said something about them being silly and that was the end of it. Not for me. I've been thinking about it and am convinced they are saying things because the muffins are different to what they eat. Like foreigners food. Like in the 50's when immigrants kids took anchovy sandwiches to school in Australia. MK reckons it wouldn't have been anchvoy, more like garlic. But you know what I mean. And truth be told I don't want her to have that experience of being different. I want her to fit in. Ugghhh, how shallow and meaningless is that.
So tonight I am making Oaty Anzac Biscuits (Donna Hay Modern Classics Book 2) and I know the kids would never have seen those but at least they are cookies. And all kids love cookies.
Oh, and another thing that will help her fit in (not that she feels this need, just me) is French lessons. We received a note from her teacher on Friday saying that the lessons start this Tuesday. Hooray!
edited to add: I just found this cool quote...not sure how or even if it relates to what I've been feeling but here it is anyway
"If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion, and avoid the people, you might better stay home." -- James Michener
