Date night on the balcony
I can't remember who first suggested it to us, but instead of going out for dates we stay home and eat dinner together after the kids are in bed. Such a simple idea but it works really well for us. When we remember to do it.
When Aussie Jen was over yesterday afternoon picking up the big order for her friend, we got talking recipes (not uncommon). Which lead me to thinking that we hadn't had date night for ages. So last night was date night on the balcony. I made a simple green salad with a dressing Jen gave me for a Fig Salad (olive oil, honey, lemon and grain mustard), with chunks of fresh pan-fried tuna on top and two pan-fried Jacques de Noix (scallops or Jack's Nuts as MK calls them now). Very nice. Then afterwards Michael had two types of pate/foies gras with toast.
I even went and got a movie out - I ♥ Huckabees. Bit wacky, but we both enjoyed it. I recommend it*.
Charlotte slept until 3.30am when Michael got up to her. Fortunately he didn't need to pick her up and was soon back in bed. Not so lucky when she woke again at 5am and was crying. He got her up then and they've been up ever since. That's just cruel.
*Which reminds me - new dvd releases are Sf7 here. Is that expensive?
